What problems do wildlife cause?

Most of the calls we get are because homeowners hear animals scurrying around inside the attic or walls. Most of the damage inside a houes or attic is unseen. Rodents like squirrels, mice, and rats often chew on electrical wires. Wildlife such as raccoons, bats, birds, opossums, and rats spread several diseases that humans can and do catch, such as Histoplasmosis, Salmonella, Leptospirosis and more. Many critters leave droppings and urine in an attic or cause mold or odor problems. We also handle animals outside the house. It could be a critter that has dug a large hole next to your house, or a raccoon in your garbage cans, an opossum that is stealing pet food, or a skunk living under your deck, causing an odor problem. Some animals destroy your garden or landscaping. Or perhaps you are simply scared of snakes. Whatever the problem is, our wildlife experts can remove the source of the problem, and prevent it from happening again. We are not a Des Moines extermination company, nor pest control. Do Raccoons Come Out In The Rain?

The answer to this question seems to be very subjective and based solely on the Des Moines raccoon removal observations and intent to find raccoons on the part of the individual or group of individuals doing the research. So here are the findings of a few diverse observers.

Scientific Observation
One Des Moines snake removal report that appears to be done scientifically stated that the weather seemed to have a slight effect on the movement of raccoons, but not a significant effect. According to the report, during the fall and winter raccoons seemed to increase somewhat in movement with a falling barometric pressure and rising temperatures. Falling barometric pressure indicates bad weather coming on, as opposed to rising barometric pressure indicating clear weather.

During breeding and gestation periods, the activity seemed more related to wind direction, barometric pressure, dewpoint, and temperature. During the birthing and raising Des Moines rat control babies time, relative humidity, temperature, and barometric pressure were a factor. However, none of these weather factors or time periods seemed to have a significant effect on the activity of raccoons during a rain.

Many raccoon hunters seem to think that the best time to hunt raccoons is either during, or just after, a light rain. The raccoons are out, and the dampness makes their Des Moines bat removal scent easier to trail. However, there are others that say that the time just before a rain is the best time for hunting.

Other Observers
Some individual Des Moines rodent extermination observers state that raccoons don’t like getting wet, and will stay in a den or other protected place until the rain is over.

No Definite Answer
With all the variable Des Moines bird control answers one can find while researching this question, there seems to be no definitive answer. Apparently, raccoons will come and go at will. If one needs to go out in the rain, getting wet won’t stop it. If another coon doesn’t care to go out, it will stay holed up somewhere dry until the rain stops. A raccoon’s coat is not waterproof, and it gets heavy when watersoaked. So they will probably go out in a light rain if they want to, but may stay “indoors” when it’s raining heavily. It seems that it may also be an individual preference. As with people, some raccoons may not mind the rain, while others may prefer to remain under shelter until the rain stops. The next time you see a raccoon, stop and ask it if it comes out in the rain!
